InnerSourcing in Platform Engineering: A Silver Bullet or Just Shiny Advice?
With the popularity of platforms has come an explosion of platform engineering principles, such as API-first design, product thinking, and three-tier architectures. Even when trying to apply these principles, organisations are still struggling to scale the impact of their platforms. InnerSourcing is a solution which has been suggested to fix two of the most prominent symptoms: low user adoption and slow platform feature growth.
With InnerSourcing, users can invest in the platform and truly co-own their tools, while also benefiting from increased contributors and additional features. Or will it? This panel is bringing together leaders from the open source and InnerSource communities to question the hand-waving advice that InnerSourcing will solve all your platform growth woes.
There are no silver bullets in platform engineering, and knowing the answer isn't always enough to succeed with a technology evolution. The true winners are those who can understand the problem space, troubleshoot as they implement solutions, and stay laser-focused on achieving better people, processes, and technology outcomes.
