From Theme Parks to Flow: Mapping Platforms for Real Impact

At DevOps Days London ("Old Tracks, New Rides..."), we discussed how difficult it can be to introduce modern concepts for flow and agility into traditional (often foundational) platforms. In this talk, we go deeper. This is a practical, hands-on guide to mapping internal platforms, spotting dependencies, and finding opportunities to improve and unblock flow. We’ll explore simple tools like service typologies, platform canvases and more that help you see your whole system clearly and make better design decisions. Whether you’re dealing with hybrid stacks, evolving platforms, or messy developer experiences, you’ll leave with a toolkit you can start using tomorrow.
Key Takeaways: A toolkit with a common language that can be used by anyone interested in improving platform value and flow.
Practical methods to help you map your platform theme park, spot current and future blockers, and make better decisions about where to invest.

Gielen Rojas-Lopez

Independent Strategy Consultant - ValueCraft Studio

With over 25 years blending strategic expertise and hands-on execution across business and technology, I have hands on experience in IT Service Management, Business Analysis, Service Design, Enterprise Architecture, and Cloud Consulting. Throughout my career I've partnered with private and public sector organisations, including working for major cloud providers like Microsoft and VMware.

This diverse background has enabled me to build extensive expertise. I firmly believe that, much like ecosystems, organizational improvement must embrace interconnectedness and continuous adaptation.

A persistent optimizer, continuous learner, and advocate for systems thinking, I believe frameworks and methodologies should facilitate—not dictate—progress. This is why I created 'unframed by ValueCraft Studio', a set of thoughts and questions to invite people to think laterally, to ideate 'together', to have purposeful conversations between disciplines, teams, and avoid siloed thinking.

I’m fluent in both English and Spanish.
